Which ICC profile do you use to print on HEXIS films?

News / 2025, 18 June

When printing on self-adhesive vinyl, the final result depends as much on the file and printer as on the ICC profile used. When you work with our self-adhesive films, it is essential to use the right ICC profile to guarantee the quality, colour accuracy and above all the durability of your prints.

Reminder: what is an ICC profile?

An ICC (International Color Consortium) profile is a file that describes how a printer, media and ink will interpret colours. The profile is used to translate the colours of a digital image into a faithful print. The ICC profile takes into account:

  • the type of ink (eco-solvent, latex, UV etc.)
  • the substrate (a HEXIS self-adhesive film)
  • the print configuration

Indeed, without using a suitable ICC profile, you run the risk of:

  • dull and/or inaccurate colours
  • excessive ink consumption
  • problems with drying and/or durability

Which ICC profile should you choose for a HEXIS vinyl?

HEXIS offers a wide range of printable films: calendered, cast, clear, microperforated etc. So the choice of the right profile depends on a number of criteria:

  • According to the self-adhesive film used: each vinyl has a different structure and we supply profiles adapted to each product.
  • Depending on your printer: ICC profiles are specific to each brand and model, and we offer optimised profiles for the most popular printers on the market
  • Depending on the ink used: eco-solvent, latex, UV, solvent etc.

Best practices for a perfect print

  • Follow the recommendations for printing supplied by HEXIS
  • Leave the prints to dry for at least 24 hours before laminating of installing
  • Calibrate your pinter on a regular basis

To summarise, the right profile makes the difference between a correctprint and a professional result that lasts over time. By choosing the right settings, you can assure your customers of faithful colours, consistent quality and optimum durability.
